The weight of luminaires usually imposes a load on the suspended ceiling. Follow the instructions in the section Functional demands, chapter Mechanical properties, and luminaires can be located wherever they are required. Reinforcing the suspension system locally is not a good solution, because it makes subsequent repositioning of luminaires more difficult.
Extreme incident light, near windows or other light sources, can create undesirable shadow effects on all kinds of surfaces that normally are considered smooth. This is also true of the Ecophon acoustic ceilings, that have a somewhat textured surface. The shadow effect can be reduced by uplighting.
Uplighting emphasises the suspended ceiling. To avoid the reflections that can occur in an exposed grid, a concealed grid (edge detail C or D) can be used.
