New head office for global organisation
URS Greiner has a total of 126 branches within and outside the USA. In total the company has 6,300 companies. In June 1997 URS Greiner brought four offices in Washington DC together under one roof. The new head office in the American capital is in a 20 year-old, seven-storey building in downtown Washington. The property is owned and managed by the Quadrangle Development Corporation.
The property owners offer their tenants a high standard of shared services. This includes a lobby, restaurants, training facilities, roof terrace and technical support – both internal and external. URS Greiner’s rental contract runs for six years.
On the third floor, in suite number 300, URS Greiner itself has adapted its 2,635 square metres to form a functional, attractive office. It was planned for 144 people, giving an area of around 18 square metres per person.
At present 105 employees are working in the office. The U-shaped office is largely open-plan. Only the members of the management group have permanent offices. The dominant colours are burgundy, grey and black.
For almost ten years now, URS Greiner has had a flexible work roster that is suited to the office’s large number of long-distance commuters.
Fulfilling the company’s strict requirements
The furniture modules from Herman Miller are in two heights, 132 or 168 centimetres, and are covered in grey fabric. Otherwise the colour scheme is neutral, with walls painted in chestnut brown and umber.
The requirements on the suspended ceiling were: a high degree of working comfort, good sound environment without any disruptions, high light reflection and light diffusion as well as the option of different ceiling levels.
