Make demands regarding your sound environment

If you are not happy with your sound environment, you should demand some positive interventions. The resources required will vary, depending on what is causing the disturbance and needs rectifying. Take up the issue with your line manager or employer. It can also be a good idea to find out about the relevant official regulations. Acoustics in one form or another are either directly or indirectly represented in working environment legislation, building regulations, guidelines and standards.

Remember to try and work out what is wrong with the sound environment. Are the sound levels too high? Do you have difficulty hearing what people say? Does sound echo in the room? Is the room full of disturbing reverberance? Are you disturbed by other people talking? This way, any interventions can be tailored to the actual problem.
